Design to Fab Lab
Design2Fab Lab is a product creation and development program with an emphasis on athletic apparel and shoe wear. Students will focus on market and consumer driven design and will be professionally and academically ready for an internship or entry into a college program at Oregon State University or Portland State University in product creation and development connected to the sports apparel industry. Students will be literate in the business of athletic apparel, design, production, and marketing. Prototyping techniques and the overall design processes are key to design problem-solving and creation activities.

Every day, CAL creators will experience design – from the past to the future, and be inspired to develop a new concept for the athletic industry. CAL’s Design2Fab Lab begins with a strong foundation in athletic performance gear to current trends. The program includes a lab class, introducing technical skills of makers that are specifically geared towards, and the program includes a design and drawing class, Students will develop and prototype a new product specific to the athletic industry.
Design Teams taught by Design Experts
The Design2Fab Lab, built around the world of sport, is where a culture of innovation is like a team sport. CAL is the first school in the State of Oregon to address the athletic apparel and shoe industry. Students will work in teams, pitch their design concepts and prototypes to Design Experts currently in the field of athletic product creation and development.Become a part of the “culture of sport” where design teams collaborate and form new ideas, discovering together what makes a design become a reality.
*Students must successfully pass the course in order to be awarded college credit
**Students also have the ability to earn as many as 14 college credits from their English course as well.
Extending Your Experience
Design2Fab Lab instructors all participated in Design Challenges that will create a culture of creativity, innovation, and relevance to this career pathway. For the 2018-19 school year, all incoming students applying to this program will be in Year One of the courses. We accept “first year” seniors into this program, too.
